OUR POWER ,OUR PLANET BY HARSHAL JAIN

 Our Power, Our Planet

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22, and in 2026 the official theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” The day reminds us that protecting the environment is not only the job of leaders or scientists; students, families, and communities also have the power to make a real difference. More than a billion people around the world take part in Earth Day activities, which shows how important environmental awareness has become globally.

Our planet is facing serious problems such as pollution, deforestation, and climate-related damage, and these issues affect animals, plants, and human life. National Geographic Kids notes that around 15 billion trees are cut down every year, which harms habitats and reduces nature’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide. This is why Earth Day teaches us that protecting the environment must begin with awareness and daily action.

 Save Water
Water is one of the most precious natural resources, yet only a very small part of Earth’s water is available for human use. EPA WaterSense explains that turning off the tap while brushing can save about 4 gallons of water each time, and fixing simple leaks can also prevent a lot of waste. Saving water at home and school helps ensure that clean water remains available for people, plants, and animals.

Reduce Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems today because huge amounts of plastic reach oceans and land every year. National Geographic Kids reports that about 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans each year, and plastic can take over 400 years to break down. This is dangerous for wildlife, because more than 700 species of marine animals have been affected by eating or becoming trapped in plastic waste.

Take Actions And Inspire Others

Students can help by planting trees, joining clean-up
activities, reusing materials, and spreading awareness through school projects or blogs. Tree planting is especially important because trees absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and give shelter to birds and animals. When students share eco-friendly ideas with others, they turn awareness into action and help build a greener future.
